Design of Tunable Filtering Array Antenna with Constant Absolute Bandwidth

(in English) In recent years, the demand for tunable antennas has been increasing with the rapid growing various wireless communication systems. In conventional works, the co-design approach of tunable bandpass filter and tunable antenna have been proposed to realize a variable frequency characteristic with a constant absolute bandwidth. However, such tunable filtering antennas have two main problems: 1) variable frequency range is narrow and 2) the beam width is wide because there is no beam-forming function. This paper proposes a new tunable filtering array antenna that can form a directional beam using a two-element array and has a wider variable frequency range than conventional tunable filtering antenna. As an example, we design a microstrip tunable filtering array antenna with a tunable range of 2.32-3.12 GHz (29.4%) and 150-MHz constant equiripple bandwidth. The effectiveness of the proposed tunable filtering array antenna is verified through the comparison of frequency-selective/tunable and radiation characteristics between EM simulated and measured results.
