[Encouragement Talk] A Study on Downlink Channel Estimation Based on Multipath Separation in a Wideband FDD System

(in English) In an FDD system, downlink channel state information (CSI) is necessary at a base station for efficient transmission.
The CSI estimated at user equipment using downlink pilot symbols is fed back to the base station.
However, this method reduces transmission efficiency in a massive MIMO system.
In this paper, we propose a method to estimate downlink CSI at a base station using an uplink pilot symbol and downlink CSI obtained with a pilot symbol from a single base station antenna.
We separate uplink multipaths in the delay domain and spatial domain using 2D FISTA.
Using the delays, directions of arrival, and the measured downlink CSI, we obtain the downlink CSI for all the base station antennas.
It has been shown that although the estimation performance in a SIMO-OFDM system depends on the bandwidth, we can estimate the downlink CSI with the proposed technique.
