The electromagnetic contactor was opened and closed in air or in hydrogen. The arc duration ta, arc energy Ea, and arc extinction current were measured from arc waveform of the breaking arc. The power supply voltage was AC100V, 50Hz. The closed contact current Io was set at 4A, and the gas pressure was set at 1, 3 atm, and effects of the ambient gas were compared. As a result, it was confirmed that the arc duration ta in the air was not affected by gas pressure. On the other hand, in hydrogen, it became shorter when the ambient pressure was 3 atm. The arc extinction current was larger in hydrogen than in air. |
