Recently, many deep learning based models for optical flow estimation have been proposed. Optical flow estimation is utilized in tasks such as frame interpolation. In this paper, we investigate different optical flow calculation methods which can be applied to frame interpolation. One approach for frame interpolation is calculating the bi-directional optical flow and linearly warping the intermediate frame. In this method, however, movements in frames are assumed to be in the same speed, therefore, not taking acceleration into consideration. To address this issue, polynomial functions for the time variable are proposed. In this research, we compare the accuracy of the flows when using linear, quadratic and cubic functions. Results shows that applying quadratic and cubic functions can lead to better accuracy. |
