Applicability of FOPH in liquids with suspended particles

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) The authors proposed that a reflection type fiber optical probe hydrophone (FOPH) is suitable for the sound pressure measurement of the ultrasonic cleaning machine in environments other than underwater under cavitation. FOPH is known to be heat-resistant, chemical-resistant, relatively inexpensive and tough. Sound pressure can be measured in an environment that cannot be measured with conventional piezoelectric hydrophone (PZT). Based on the results of previous studies, the possibility of absolute sound pressure measurement in water under cavitation has been confirmed. However, there are few reported cases in which sound pressure using FOPH under cavitation is measured in liquids where substances other than the medium are present. In this report, the applicability of sound pressure measurement in liquid in which suspended particles exist was examined in sound pressure measurement using FOPH.
