Analog Radio-over-Fiber (A-RoF) technology is expected to be adopted in next generation mobile fronthauls (MFH) because of its high economic feasibility and easy-installability. We investigate polarization multiplexing to expand the capacity of A-RoF transmission without compromising its economic feasibility. In this paper, we report experimental results on transmission of 2×2 MIMO spatial streams over a single mode fiber (SMF) using polarization multiplexing. We evaluate transmission performance measuring the bit error rate (BER). In the experiment, we occasionally observed difficulty in estimation of channel state information. This can be attributed to the decrease in RF signal power resulting from power imbalance between PBS output ports and/or decrease in degree of freedom of the channel matrix due to two PBS output signals being identical. |
