A Study of Bicycle Traveling Direction Identification Using Road Marking

(in English) This paper proposes a method for identifying the bicycle traveling direction using road marking. First, we classify the road marking, and use three types of road marking (arrow feather type road marking, vehicle attention pictogram, and bicycle pictogram with arrow), which exist in many around Saitama University where is a survey area. Next, as a bicycle traveling direction identification method using road marking, we propose a scheme using the object detection algorithm “YOLOv3” and evaluate the bicycle traveling direction identification performance using bicycle driving images in real. The results show the identification performance is low because the saturation, omission, white spots, backlight, and shadow. Then, we add the training images for the dataset, and show the necessity of considering the omitting of the target road marking at the lower end of the image accompanied by bicycle driving. Consequently, the knowledge of bicycle traveling direction identification using road marking is obtained.
