In recent years, microwave and millimeter-wave bands have been considered for outdoor applications to cope with an increase in the communication traffic; however, the higher the frequency, the larger is the propagation loss. In this regard, a system that uses UAVs (drones) as relay stations to communicate in a line-of-sight (LoS) environment has been studied. In the system, there is a difference in the number of transmitting and receiving antenna elements between the base station and the drone and between the drone and the terminal. In this study, we evaluated the performance of asymmetric LoS-MIMO with a difference in the number of antenna elements between transmission and reception. The effectiveness of asymmetric LoS-MIMO was demonstrated by comparing the channel capacity pertaining to the distance between the transmitter and receiver based on the conventional symmetric LoS-MIMO with an equal number of antenna elements. |
