[Short Paper] Opportunistic Scheduling for Downlink MU-MIMO Systems

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This paper investigates the user scheduling method for the downlink of the MU-MIMO system.

As we all know, multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) technology has become one of the main technologies. The multi-user and multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system has also attracted more and more attention. However, since MU-MIMO system share the same time and frequency resources, multi-user co-channel interference (CCI) is inevitably introduced, which affects the reliable reception of data and reduces the throughput of the MU-MIMO system. In order to effectively suppress the CCI of multiple users, the base station (abbreviated as BS) needs to use a reasonable user scheduling method.

In order to make the base station (BS) learn the user's channel information through channel reciprocity and more suitable for systems with precoding technology, we choose downlink MU-MIMO system in Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode. In addition, we also added minimum mean squared error (MMSE) precoding to the system, which can effectively suppress the communication interference between multiple users.

User scheduling increases the channel capacity by selecting a set of best users, thereby increasing the multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) gain. However, it is difficult to know which of the many existing user scheduling methods can give full play to the advantages in downlink MU-MIMO system. In this paper, we compare four different user scheduling methods in a downlink $N_mathrm{T} times N_mathrm{R}$ MU-MIMO system, and according to the simulation results of each method, we propose a more suitable and efficient user scheduling method in different conditions.
