[Short Paper] Region extraction and mass estimation of kidneys from Ai-CT

(in English) Autopsy imaging (Ai) is an examination method for investigating the cause of death and estimating the postmortem time. Since the weight of organs may reflect disease or pathological condition, it is useful information for investigating the cause of death. Generally, it is necessary to dissect bodies for to measuring the weight of organs, but it is difficult to obtain weight data because of low rate of dissection in Japan. In order to solve this problem, in this study, we developed a method to extract kidney regions from postmortem CT images and estimate the kidney weight from the obtained CT numbers in the kidney regions using the deep learning. As a result of evaluating accuracy of the extracted kidney region by the Dice coefficient, 0.726 ± 0.066 was obtained. The correlation coefficient between the estimated and actual kidney weights was 0.70 and an absolute error of kidney weight was 53.43[g].
