The purpose of this study is to reduce total number of traffic jams of an ultradiscrete traffic flow model by controlling of signals systematically. We formulate a signal control problem with an objective function on total traffic jams of the model to be minimized as an optimization problem, and derive a new method to solve the problem by genetic algorithm (GA) to calculate optimal signal switching laws. Especially, we extend the control method to a model-predictive type one in order for efficient computation. From numerical simulation results, it turns out that the purposed method can reduce the total traffic jams most in comparison with other methods. |
