To meet the diverse and strict requirements of 5G and beyond ((B)5G), efficient radio access network (RAN) technologies are being actively studied. Particularly, centralized RAN with fronthauling has received considerable attention. In this work, we will discuss analog-to-digital compression (ADX) techniques for (B)5G mobile fronthaul, which aim to significantly reduce the fronthaul bandwidth requirement with low latency while maintaining high signal fidelity. We will present an overview of state-of-the-art, the design of FPGA-based ADX prototype, and real-time demonstrations of 2 different fronthaul scenarios. |
