Multilayer thin film materials with desired magnetic, electric and optical properties involving spin-orbit coupling interaction have been strongly demanded although it involves complexity in understanding of the SOC-induced phenomena. With these backgrounds, we have theoretically studied and established the guideline in materials design, i.e., ways for turning various physical properties by substituting/doping element species and by controlling atomic-layer alignments, using first-principles calculations and machine learning technique. We here present two examples of i) design of multilayer thin films that realizes high perpendicular magnetization and low magnetic damping, and ii) systematic design of 3d magnetic metal/5d heavy metal double-layer films involving largely SOC-induced phenomena. |
