[Tutorial Invited Lecture] Coherent optical communication technology and my research life

(in English) Coherent optical communication technology was proposed at the end of the 1970s, and after about 30 years, it was put into practical use as a 100 Gbit/s optical communication system around 2010. The author has been involved in coherent optical communication technology since his university graduation research and has since been conducting research and development centered on coherent technology at research institutes of private companies. And he is currently studying coherent technology as a university faculty member. Since coherent optical communication technology uses the fundamental properties of light waves, it is possible to bring out the properties of light to the root in the optical measurement technology. Moreover, it is required to capture even minute changes without leaking. Therefore, it is expected that it will show its true value in optical measurement technology. For this reason, the author is currently focusing on the application of coherent technology to optical measurement. In this paper, the author would like to describe the development and prospects of coherent optical communication technology over the 40 years since the proposal from the author's point of view.
