(in English) We report on the technology trends in optical networks at OFC2021 (June 6-11, 2021), which was the first fully virtual event due to the spread of COVID-19. The application of machine learning technology to optical networks, which has been a hot topic in the past few years, is still active, and various applications in optical path planning, fault detection and localization, etc. were reported. In addition to the particularly large number of reports on quality of transmission (QoT) estimation using machine learning and open source tools, there were also many presentations on maximizing the potential of the optical networks, such as autonomous optical network operation, low margin, and L-band extension, based on the progress of telemetry and its analysis technologies.
