Analysis of cerebral intrinsic optical signal of mice evoked by the spatio-temporal visual stimuli

(in English) There is a topographic connection between the cortical primary visual cortex and the retina, called the retinal map. This suggests that the retinal image can be estimated from the response pattern of the primary visual cortex to visual stimuli. In this study, we analyzed the relationship between the spatiotemporal patterns of visual stimuli and the responses of the primary visual cortex measured by Intrinsic Optical Signal (IOS) imaging in awake mice. The results showed that depending on the structure of the visual stimulus, there was no simple topographic relationship between the spatial patterns of visual cortex responses. This suggests that, in principle, it is difficult to estimate retinal images from cortical IOS in mice.
