Estimation of fluctuation diameter affecting underwater propagating light

(in English) The validity of the approach to estimate the size of the fluctuation in water affecting to the propagation of light is evaluated. The dimension of water fluctuation is estimated by using plural narrow optical beams emitted in parallel to measure the position of the brightness centroid of each light. Next, by the Schlieren method, the dimension of water fluctuation is estimated from the change in light intensity at fixed positions. Experiments using a tubular water tank show that almost the same estimation results can be obtained from both methods. In addition, the optical fine tracking system using a steering mirror is constructed, and the operating characteristics of the fine tracking are evaluated by changing the diameter of the light flux to be tracked. With these results, we confirm the method of estimating the size of water fluctuation is valid.
