A Study on Generalized Time-Frequency Spatial Modulation System

(in English) In recent years, with the proliferation of wireless devices such as smartphones, commercial services of the 5th generation communication system (5G) have been launched with the aim of achieving even higher transmission speeds and capacities of wireless communication systems. To achieve higher wireless transmission rate and higher bandwidth efficiency (BWE), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) are two of the major technologies that improve the BWE. However, one of the disadvantages of MIMO systems is that the RF circuits associated with each antenna which includes amplifiers and DA converters, etc., increase the power consumption. To solve this issue, time-domain spatial modulation (SM) and frequency domain subcarrier index modulation (SIM) techniques have been investigated to reduce the number of RF branches or further improves system BWE. In this research, we aim to combine two systems into one generalized time-frequency spatial modulation system. To reduce the issue of that long duration of OFDM symbol will reduce the antenna switching rate of time-domain SM, the proposed generalized SM system transmit partial shorter OFDM symbol to increase its antenna switching rate. This simulated results also show its BWE results of the proposed system.
