On May 22, 2021, China's first Mars rover "Zhurong " has begun its exploration on Mars surface. One of its payloads is a subsurface penetrating radar (SPR), which contains two channels of different center frequencies. The high frequency channel at 2 GHz employs a pair of Vivaldi antennas for recording full-polarimetric radar echoes. The main scientific objective of this high-frequency channel is to detect and discriminate potential water/dry ice in Mars regolith. A laboratory experiment is carried out to validate its feasibility and the initial results will be presented in the paper. |
