Study on reduction of electromagnetic coupling between two antennas using Characteristic Mode Analysis

(in English) In order to reduce the size of information terminals, it is necessary to minimize the required volume of antennas by arranging multiple MIMO antennas in the terminal in close proximity. At this time, strong electromagnetic coupling occurs between the antennas, so a method for reducing electromagnetic coupling is important. In the conventional method, there is a method of calculating the lumped constants placed between the antennas from mutual susceptance, but in many cases, the line connecting between the antennas, the size of the notch on the main plate, and the place of placement are derived by a parameter study. In the previous report, we showed a coupling reduction method that rationally determines the connection location of lines using even-odd mode analysis. In this report, CMA analysis is applied to the method of connecting two antennas with a bridge line and the method of cutting out the main plate, calculating the inner product of MWC of both feeding ports in each mode and the degree of orthogonal the current generated in both feeding ports. The method of analyzing the operation mechanism of coupling and setting the coupling reduction structural parameters is shown.
