In this paper, performance of multidimensional coded QAM is studied considering the power amplifier (PA) nonlinearity. In order to increase the transmission data rate, the use of high-order QAM is one of the most promising methods. However, since the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) increases with higher-order constellation of QAM signals, the linearity of the amplifiers is highly required. In this paper, we attempt to solve this problem by using QAM with multi-dimensional trellis coded modulation (MD-TCM QAM). In this paper, we assume a millimeter-wave amplifier model applied to IEEE802.11ad standard, and evaluate the effect of amplifier nonlinearity in MD-TCM QAM and conventional coded QAM by error rate performance. As a result, it is found that the MD-TCM QAM is less affected by the nonlinearity than the conventional QAM. It is also found that 3 to 5[dB] higher input power to the PA can be available by using MD-TCM QAM. |
