This paper presents a subarray design of a planar circularly polarized antenna for C band application with an operating frequency of 5.3 GHz. The subarray antenna consists of four-unit element antennas. The unit element antenna is made of a simple modified-square patch. It uses a single dielectric substrate. The unit element antennas are connected serially by using the serial-sequential-rotation technique. In addition, the ground plane modification is made by slotting four dumbbells shape DGS (Defective Ground Structure). The circular polarization of the antenna is naturally generated by corner truncation and slotting patches. Applying array antennas is to make broaden axial ratio bandwidth. The simulated impedance bandwidth (S11 ≤ -10 dB) and axial ratio bandwidth (≤ 3 dB) are achieved at approximately 338 MHz (5.122 ? 5.46 GHz) and 387 MHz (5.13-5.517 GHz), respectively. |
