Aviation turbulence is one of the dangers in a flight. Previously, it caused damage to the aircraft and injure passengers. One source of aviation turbulence information is pilot reports submitted to air traffic control (ATC) and pilot reports were obtained randomly. As a result, aviation turbulence can occur both over the ocean and overland, where changes in altitude during turbulence are between +2000 feet to -6000 feet from regular flight level. Therefore, this research employs the Himawari satellite for convective cloud detection. This research introduces eleven turbulence report from Kualanamu Airport to Soekarno Hatta Airport, Denpasar to Soekarno Hatta Airport, Denpasar to Singapura Airport and some routes from Seokarno Hatta to some airport on 1-9 June 2018, 23 June 2018; 10,18,23,25,25 and 30 July 2018. The convective index method was used and the detection results are validated using data from observations of weather stations on the surface owned by the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). The result shows some turbulence happen near convective cloud. It is hoped that the detection of convective clouds related to turbulence events can be used as an approach for turbulence prediction. |
