Development of Anode Catalysts for High Power Sugar Fuel Cells -- Composites of Conducting Polymers, Carbon Nano Tube and PtRu --

(in English) Glucose/KOH fuel cells have been fabricated using PEDOT*PSS, SWCNT, PtRu composites for anode catalysts. From the optimization of the fuel cell by varying oxygen, glucose, and KOH concentrations, the highest output power of 60 mWcm-2 has been obtained. Turning Mabuchi motor and lightening of LED are demonstrated using the high-power glucose fuel cells. A hypothesis, that glucose is oxidized to gluconic acid via the chain structure of glucose and 2 electron model, indicates that the coulombic efficiency of 89% and energetic efficiency of 45% for lightening LED are obtained.
