A study on the configuration of wide dynamic range burst-mode signals detection for digital coherent reception.

(in English) In the uplink transmission of the time division multiplexing-based passive optical network (TDM-PON) system using the digital coherent reception, it is necessary to receive burst-mode signals with large power difference to accommodate many users spread in a wide area. This paper details the configuration of wide dynamic range burst-mode coherent receiver using fast-feed forward gain controlling of both of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) and trans-impedance amplifiers set at the coherent receiver. The experimental results verify that the proposal yields extremely high loss budget of 48.6 dB and wide dynamic range of 30.1 dB. In addition, the achievable splitting ratio and transmission distance are investigated by optical path loss calculations.
