Development of quantum computer platforms has been rapidly progressing for the last decade in a variety of quantum systems such as superconducting circuits, photons, trapped ions, and nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamonds. Trapped ions are well-isolated from the environment, resulting in very long coherence times amongst others, and which in turn enables high fidelity gate operations. However, many laser beams at different wavelengths are also required for quantum manipulations. Here we report SiN-based planar interfacial photonic circuits suitable for integrating with a planar surface trap designed for trapping Ca+ ions. We discuss spot-size converters as interfaces to single-mode optical fibers and grating couplers to illuminate the light to trapped ions. |
