[Invited Lecture] Effect of Indoor Structure and Physical Properties on Channel Capacity Estimation Using Ray Trace Method

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) One of the analysis methods for indoor MIMO communication is the ray tracing method. It is less rigorous than FDTD method, which simulates the change of electromagnetic fields based on Maxwell’s equations, but it can analyses with relatively little computer memory. In addition, the visualization of the paths makes it possible to understand the analysis result visually and intuitively, even in complex multi-path environment. However, the simulation accuracy of these methods depends on the rigor of the analysis model. In this paper, we evaluated the effect of the presence of various indoor structures and the physical properties of the materials on the estimation of MIMO channel capacity using ray tracing method. As a result, it was found that the influence of indoor structures involved in a single reflected wave is large, and that is important to consider multiple indoor structures in the analysis. In addition, in examining the physical properties, it was found that the relative permittivity has a larger effect on channel capacity than the conductivity.
