[Short Paper] A Study of Computer Vision-aided Single-antenna and Single-anchor RSSI Localization Considering Movable Obstructions

(in English) This paper shows the feasibility of single-antenna and single-RF (radio frequency)-anchor received power strength indicator (RSSI) localization with the aid of computer vision (CV). Generally, realizing localization with single-antenna and single-anchor RSSI is challenging because it only indicates coarse-grained distance information between the receiver and the transmitter. In this study, the first Fresnel zone (FFZ) between the receiver and the transmitter is estimated by recording the position of the moving obstruction in the line-of-sight path using the CV technique. Specifically, we detect the signal attenuation caused by the blockage of the FFZ from the RSSI time series, and detect the position of the moving obstruction at the time. These estimated obstacle positions coincide with points on the FFZ boundaries in principle, and the transmitter’s position can be localized from this estimated FFZ. The experimental evaluation showed that the proposed method achieves a localization error of less than 1.0 m in indoor environments, comparable to conventional triangulation-based RSSI localization with multiple RF anchors.
