Successive Interference Cancellation for Multiple LPWA Systems

(in English) With the rapid development of Internet of Things, various low power wide area (LPWA) systems that have different communication methods and communication protocols have been developed (e.g., long range wide area network). However, owing to long-distance communication and the use of the same 920 [MHz] band among LPWA systems, inter-system interferences have become a crucial issue in addition to intra-system interferences. Thus, we investigate successive interference cancellation (SIC) among multiple LPWA systems, which enables gateway (GW) to demodulate multiple non-orthogonal interference signals. In our method, first, the GW accumulates in-phase and quadrature-phase (I/Q) data of received signals. Then, the GW demodulates the I/Q signals using fast Fourier transform in each system's demodulator and estimates transmission sequence and propagation channel coefficient. Finally, if the demodulation is successful, the GW modulates the transmission sequence as a replica signal based on the channel coefficient, subtracts the replica signal from the accumulated I/Q signals, and demodulates subtracted signals again in each system's demodulator. The simulation results show that our method can suppress packet error rate of all systems compared to the conventional demodulation without SIC.
