We aim at developing a patient-specific musculoskeletal simulation approach for predicting musculoskeletal behavior of musculoskeletal structures after hip surgery, disease progression, and rehabilitation. In this research, patient-specific musculoskeletal modeling was performed based on geometric representation of the muscle shape and muscle fiber orientation derived from volumetric medical images and the elastic volume simulator (VIPER). We modeled the gluteus maximus, medius, and minimus muscles attached to the femur and the pelvis, and predicted the shape deformations and fiber pathway of each muscle by simulating the interference between muscles during hip joint motion. |
