Study on the Effect of Periodic Fluctuations of Musical Instrument Sounds on Hearing

(in English) The sound of a musical instrument looks like a periodic waveform, but there are minute changes (variations, irregularities) in amplitude and period, and it is thought that it is the origin of beautiful sound in hearing. In this study, we investigated the fluctuation of the periodicity of musical instrument sounds. One-cycle waveform was cut out from the entire waveform of the musical instrument, and a waveform was synthesized by repeating the one-cycle waveform with small random changes in the cycle (Study--1). In addition, the total time of the one-cycle repeated waveform was slightly changed (slight change in frequency), and the waveform is added to the original repeated waveform (Study--2). We have performed questionnaire to find out what kind of irregularity affect hearing.it was found that the sound generated by Study—1 noise, but the that by Study--was relatively near to the natural sound.
