Flexible Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal using Mesogen Dendrimers and Polymer Walls for Smart Windows

(in English) We have developed an alignment film-less flexible polymer-dispersed liquid crystals (PDLCs) using vertically aligned (VA) liquid crystal by the liquid crystalline dendrimers for the flexible smart windows with high transmittance and high flexibility. The liquid crystalline dendrimers in the liquid crystal generates an electric convection and it enables light scattering without using a polymer network. Furthermore, by using the latticed polymer wall structure and the electric convection, a flexible PDLC with high curvature resistance was successfully realized. The flexible PDLCs developed in this study has advantages of high flexibility, high durability and high transmittance, therefore it is promising as a flexible smart windows.
