Age-related changes in intentional binding induced by hand and foot actions

(in English) When a stimulus is presented after a voluntary action with short time interval, the perceptual time interval between the action and the stimulus is shorter than the actual interval. This time compression is termed as “intentional binding (IB).” In this study, we investigated the age-related changes in IB, focusing on the differences between young and older adults. We also investigated the differences in IB induced by actions of different body parts (hand and foot). The results showed that older adults exhibited as much IB as young adults in both hand and foot in the voluntary action condition. However, only the older adult group exhibited IB in involuntary action trials. This suggests that action-effect binding mechanisms differ between young and older adults.
