Images taken under low-light conditions such as at night or in a dark rooms are dark and have low visibility. Recently, many low-light image enhancement algorithms (night vision algorithms) have been proposed. However, the conventional methods have some problems such as causing over enhancement in bright regions and/or high computational cost. In this report, we propose a new low-light image enhancement method preserving the hue information in RGB color space. In the proposed method, the input pixels are represented by a convex combination of white, black, and pure color. Then, a modified gamma transform is applied to the combination coefficients in order to brighten only dark pixels. The histogram of black coefficients is smoothed by a gamma filter to improve the contrast of the image. The proposed method can improve the visibility of the image overall. In experiments, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by comparing with the state-of-the-art methods through qualitative and quantitative evaluations. |
