Influence of a verbal load on a sequential timing task
Takashi Oyama, Teruaki Ito (Okayama Pref. Univ.) NC2021-77
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been demonstrated that the dual-task impairs individual's performance on cognitive and motor tasks. A verbal load such as speech shadowing especially induces the manual asymmetry. In this study the influence of a verbal load on a choice reaction time task (CRT) and a sequential timing task (STT) with visual stimuli was investigated. An analysis of variance with the hand and the verbal load as factors revealed a significant interaction between the hand and the verbal load in the STT with constant intervals of visual stimuli, and those were not significant in the CRT and the STT with random intervals. The results suggest the difference of linguistic information utility on cognitive tasks.
