This research group aims to establish a measurement method by estimating abdominal fat mass using microwaves. In previous studies, S-parameter measurements were performed on a numerical human body model, and the possibility of estimating the abdominal fat area using machine learning was reported. Furthermore, it was shown that the estimation accuracy was improved by using more frequencies. However, the problem was that no demonstration experiment was conducted to determine whether the abdominal fat mass could be estimated using actual equipment or the human body. Therefore, in this report, in order to actually perform an abdominal fat mass estimation experiment, we designed a measurement system consisting of a coaxial waveguide converter, a tapered structure, and a perforated waveguide using an electromagnetic field simulator. Then, when the abdominal fat mass was estimated from the S-parameters obtained by simulation for a numerical human body model with different fat mass, the same tendency as the estimation by the previous studies was obtained. From these results, it was suggested that there is a possibility of fat mass estimation even in an experimental system that can be manufactured and a study using a numerical human body model that is close to reality. Actual measurement using the designed waveguide is a future task. |
