We conducted high-precision positioning experiments using the Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) and centimeter-level augmentation service (CLAS) framework to realize positioning for visually impaired people walking outdoors and provide the position information to emergency personnel in the event of a large-scale disaster.
Two methods were used. In method 1, centimeter-level positioning augmentation information from the QZSS was recorded using a receiver (Mosaic-CLAS) with a single antenna. Method 2 implemented the CLAS-based real-time kinematic correction system (CLARCS) through a mobile communication line and a receiver (AsteRx-m3) with dual-antenna. Outdoor walking experiments involving method 1 were performed in the Niigata University campus. The antennas were attached near the shoulder of the participant. Experiments involving method 2 were conducted in a downtown area (Ginza, Tokyo) surrounded by buildings. Results demonstrated that decimeter-level positioning could be realized in the open sky area in Niigata University. In the urban area, an error of several meters occurred owing to the influence of the multipath and other factors. However, the positioning accuracy was satisfactory at the intersection. Furthermore, we examined the application of the system for speech navigation. |
