Guidelines for Selecting Operation Modes of Soft-switching Active Bridge Converters for Inductive Power Transfer obtaining Higher Efficiency

(in English) In order to increase the output capacity of the inductive power transfer (IPT) system for electric vehicles, a reduction of the electromagnetic noise and efficiency improvement are required.
To address these challenges, a soft-switching active bridge (SAB) converter has been proposed.
In the previous research, characteristics of the half-bridge operation mode have not been revealed, though those of the full-bridge operation mode have been discussed.
In this paper, the half-bridge operation in the SAB converter is investigated by theoretical analyses and experiments, and a guideline for selecting the operation mode to improve efficiency is shown.
The experimental results showed that the whole system efficiency could be improved over wider operation range by controlling the system according to the guideline.
Especially, the efficiency was improved by 0.8 points at 1.5 kW charging and by 2.8 points at 1.0 kW charging.
