Development of Cluster Channel Model Evaluation System and Fast Fading Measurement Results

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Performance evaluation in developing new wireless communication systems usually requires a propagation channel model that accurately represents radio propagation characteristics, especially small-scale fading due to the spatiotemporal dispersion of multipath channels. Typically, the geometry based stochastic channel model (GSCM) includes stochastic model parameters with respect to the delay time, angles of departure and arrival of clusters which are usually obtained from measurement campaign and modeled using an appropriate probability distribution function. The impulse response generated by the channel model is then convolved with the transmitted signal to generate small-scale fading in the received signal. Until now, in site-general channel models the verification of the measured data and validation of modeling accuracy have not been rigorously conducted. However, on the other hand, in site-specific channel modeling, it is necessary to validate the developed model whether it can accurately represent the channel. In this study, a cluster channel model validation system has been developed to evaluate the reproduction accuracy of small-scale fading. In this paper, the cluster channel model obtained from the post-processing of the data measured in a specific scenario were evaluated to give confidence that a set of channel measurement data is suitable for statistical modeling as a first step. Here, the post-processing includes the multipath components (MPCs) extraction and clustering. The small-scale fading generated by the cluster channel model was then statistically compared with the measured one in the same scenario. This paper presents the developed system and the cluster channel model validation results.
