Comparison of signal quality between electrical and optical superposition of AMCC signals in SOA-integrated EA-DFB Laser

(in English) The All-Photonics Network (APN) has been proposed that realizes direct optical connection with large capacity, low latency and low power consumption and provides protocol-independent network services. On the other hand, focusing on the optical transmission system, Intensity Modulation and Direct Detection transmission can be considered as a scheme for optical transmission with low power consumption and low cost, and SOA-integrated EA-DFB lasers have recently been studied as devices for long-distance transmission. By superposing the Auxiliary Management and Control Channel (AMCC) signal, which is a protocol-independent management and control channel, on the SOA-integrated EA-DFB laser, it is possible to realize a long-distance transmission with direct optical connection and a protocol-independent network. Therefore, it can be a candidate device for use in the APN. Electrical and optical domain superposition methods can be considered to superpose the AMCC signal on a SOA-integrated EA-DFB laser. However, it is not clear which method is superior in terms of signal quality for both the main signal and the AMCC signal. In this paper, we evaluate the signal quality of the main signal and the AMCC signal for each superposition method and clarify that optical domain superposition method is superior to the electrical domain superposition method.
