A consideration on a dual-polarized single-layer wideband ring microstrip antenna fed by two L-probes

(in English) This paper presents broadband and dual-polarized design of a single-layer ring microstrip antenna (MSA) fed by two L-probes. Firstly, the single-polarized ring MSA which is composed of a square ring patch as a radiating element and an L-probe as a feeding element arranged at the same layer of a single-layered dielectric substrate is discussed. A thick dielectric substrate of 3 mm thickness is used, and the width of the L-probe and the distance between the L-probe and the ring patch are tuned appropriately using IE3D, an electromagnetic simulator. The simulated result reveals that broadband performance of a fractional bandwidth of 38.4% is obtained at around 12 GHz. Then, the dual-polarized ring MSA with an additional L-probe arranged at the orthogonal position each other is investigated by both simulation and experiment. The measured S11 and S22 less than -10 dB are from 10.22 to 16.30 GHz and from 10.12 to 15.50 GHz, which is corresponding to fractional bandwidths of 45.9% and 42.0%, respectively. Furthermore, the measured S12 and S21 in the above bandwidths are less than -10.7 dB. It reveals that the proposed single-layer ring MSA fed by two L-probes exhibits good broadband and dual-polarized characteristics.
