Basic Study of Mobile Wireless Power Transfer System Using Parallel-Meander-Line

(in English) The issues that electric vehicles face, such as driving distance, is to be solved by an idea using a wireless power transfer while driving. In this wireless power transfer system, high-frequency power is transmitted to a transmission-line installed on the road, and power is captured via receiving electrodes placed proximity on the line. The receiving electrode consists of a reflector electrode and a pick-up electrode. The reflector reflects all the power propagating along the line, and the pick-up electrode picks up all the power. The preceding research results have shown that the optimum distance between the reflector electrode and the pick-up electrode is one quarter wavelength. In actual applications in the MHz or kHz band, the distance between the pick-up and the reflector electrode should be shortened. Therefore, changing the line structure to a meander line type is considered. Since it is difficult to obtain a large coupling with a microstrip structure, the authors also considered using a parallel meander line, which is a balanced circuit. As a result of attaching a matching circuit to the pick-up electrode, it was confirmed that good transmission characteristics was obtained even if the receiver moves on the line.
