A Study on Expectation Propagation-based Iterative Detection for Overloaded MIMO in Coded Systems

(in English) This paper investigates an appropriate design for iterative detection receivers in overloaded large multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) systems. Iterative detection schemes are roughly classified into two types: iterative detection and decoding (IDD) and self-iterative detection (SID). IDD exchanges log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) between a symbol detector for separating multiplexed signals and a channel decoder for performing bit error correction, while SID performs iterative detection process without the use of the channel decoder. By combining these methodologies, we aim to achieve an excellent trade-off between the computational cost and detection performance. Simulation results show that the performance can be significantly improved by employing expectation propagation (EP) instead of the conventional probabilistic data association (PDA) as the SID scheme before performing IDD, especially when the overload rate is high.
