In recent years, the number of elderly people living alone has been increasing in Japan due to the rapid aging society.
To cope with this situation, behavior estimation systems have been proposed that can watch over the lives of elderly people on
behalf of their families. Existing studies have proposed the systems that the cameras are installed at home and the image analysis
technology is utilized to estimate the behavior of residents. However, there is concern that the use of cameras for capturing
images may infringe on the privacy of residents, hence that residents may be resistant to the system. Therefore, in this study,
we attempt to develop a system that estimates the position and posture of residents in their homes and observe their behavior by
analyzing point cloud information measured using 3D LiDAR, a type of laser radar that can acquire the distance, position, and
shape of objects, using machine learning techniques. The proposed system adopts an edge computing configuration to analyze
point cloud information acquired from LiDAR on sensor nodes at home and is designed to transmit only the estimation results
to an analysis server deployed on the Internet. This will make it possible to use the behavior observation system even at home
where a high-speed Internet environment is not deployed. |
