Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Due to severe resource limitations for IoT devices, TCP has been historically neglected for transport protocol in IoT and UDP has been widely deployed. For interoperability with conventional TCP/IP running on cloud servers, protocol conversion at a gateway is generally applied, but it is well-known that many applications have to be implemented at a gateway for each IoT device. TCP in IoT has been requited for pure end-to-end interoperability of TCP/IP. And it is recently reported that TCP can be implemented on IoT devices. This paper focuses on TCP in IoT from the viewpoint of congestion control. Our preliminary evaluation results show that congestion window monotonically increases because of no congestion loss in the network due to low bandwidth of an access link. Consequent large difference between the number of inflight packets and congestion window size causes performance degradation of TCP in the case of tentative network congestion. In this paper, we propose a new gateway-driven approach where advertised window size is overwritten at a gateway to resolve this technical problem.
