(in English) We are developing a satellite broadcasting system with layered division multiplexing (LDM) transmission that multiplexes multiple modulation signals with different power levels, injection levels (IL), in the same channel with the aim of providing services flexibly in accordance with the receiving environment. LDM consists of an upper layer (UL) with high power and a lower layer (LL) with low power and enables a transmission system to be designed with different bit rates and levels of robustness in the same channel. LDM transmission makes it possible for a satellite broadcasting system to switch content and change the quality of services dynamically on the receiver side in consideration of rain attenuation, etc.
In this report, we evaluated the characteristics of LDM transmission for a satellite broadcasting system in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel through computer simulation. We present two UL signal decoding methods, show their performance according to IL, and discuss their differences.
