This report discusses electromagnetic interference characteristics of aircraft radio altimeters due to in-band and out-band interference signals. The aircraft radio altimeters are operated between 4.2−4.4 GHz. However, Sub-6 5G mobiles systems are introduced for the adjacent band those of the radio altimeter band. To investigate the interference characteristics of actual radio altimeter, the radio altimeter interference threshold values are measured based on RTCA DO-155 test set-up. Firstly, an overview of pulsed radio altimeter is discussed. Then, the measurement set-up based on DO-155 test procedures and the measurement parameters are discussed. Finally, the interference threshold values of RAs are discussed based on the measured results. The interference threshold value for the in-band test is -93.0 dBm/MHz at 1,500 ft. In addition, the interference threshold value for the out-band test is -57.7 dBm at 1,500 ft with 100 MHz guard band, however, it is obtained at lower loop loss values compared with that of defined by DO-155. Because of this, the interference threshold value will be getting lower with the DO-155 loop loss value. |
