In ultrasound shear wave elastography (SWE), the shear modulus of the liver, associated to the progression of liver fibrosis, can be non-invasively estimated by measuring the propagation speed of the shear wave propagating in the liver. However, it is assumed that the shear wave speed, the shear modulus, and liver fibrosis may not correspond by the frequency dispersibility of the shear wave speed due to the viscosity of the liver and the refraction or diffraction of the shear wave due to the heterogeneity of the liver. In this study, we have proposed the mechanical burst excitation (MBE) SWE that mechanically vibrates the body surface by burst-wave excitation of arbitrary frequencies. The frequency dispersion can be evaluated, and the shear wave propagation can be visualized in MBESWE. In this paper, we describe the method of signal processing for ultrasonic echoes and the method of visualization of the shear wave propagation in MBESWE. |
