Network Structure for Micro Disaggregated Data Centers

(in English) Micro data centers (????DCs), which are small data centers located close to users, have been proposed to execute time-sensitive applications. Efficient resource utilization is important in a ????DCs because a ????DCs has a limited amount of resources compared with cloud data centers but is required to run many applications. One approach to utilizing resources efficiently is to disaggregate resources such as CPU, GPU, memories and storage. In a disaggregated data center (DDC), resources are connected via network. By allocating only required resources to each application, we can efficiently utilize the resources in DDC. However, in a DDC, the network has a large impact on the performance of the applications. Therefore, in this paper, we discuss network structures suitable for micro disaggregated data centers (????DDCs). We first discuss the requirements for network structures in a ????DDC and introduce metrics. Then, we apply the metrics to the network structures constructed based on existing data center network structures. Based on the metric, we investigate their properties and discuss the suitable network structures.
