A Study and Evaluation of Router Load Reduction Method using Multi Packet Aggregation Path
Kyoka Onishi, Michihiro Aoki (AIT) NS2022-77
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity in the Internet is considered to be used in a variety of fields, and the number of M2M-connected devices is expected to reach 14.7 billion by 2023. Therefore, as the number of sensor devices and other devices increases, the number of short packets (packets with extremely small size) is expected to increase. An increase in short packets may induce congestion due to an influx of packets that exceeds the router's packet processing capacity. To reduce the processing load on routers, a method of aggregating packets on the same paths is being considered. In this scheme, it is important to increase the efficiency of packet aggregation. In this paper, we propose a scheme using rerouting and multiple aggregation paths, and we report the evaluation results by simulation considering traffic exchange patterns.
In this proposed method, the aggregation path is first obtained from the path with the highest traffic (step1). As step2, the paths that can be improved the aggregation efficiency by changing the path are determined in the paths that are not included in the step1’s aggregation path. Furthermore, a new aggregation path is obtained in the paths not included in the step2’s aggregation path. By repeating the above steps, we aim to improve the aggregation efficiency.
